How to Fill & Set Up Your PepPen
New to PepPens? This walks you through filling a 3mL cartridge, loading it into your pen, and getting it ready to use, one step at a time.
Without one, pressure pushes the rubber plunger out the bottom of the cartridge and the solution is lost. Vent needle in first, out last.
What you need
- PepPen
- 3mL glass cartridge
- Vent needle
- Fill syringe
- Pen needle (31G)
- Alcohol prep pads
Pens ship without cartridges or needles. The Starter Kit includes cartridges, vent needles, and pen needles.
Step by step
1Prep
Wipe the top of the cartridge and any vial stoppers with an alcohol pad.
2Vent first
Push the vent needle through the rubber seal on the metal-capped end of the cartridge. Leave it in the whole time you fill.
3Fill
Insert the fill syringe through the same seal, beside the vent needle. Add solution slowly, 3mL max. Remove the syringe, then remove the vent needle last.
4Load
On the V2 and V3, pull the front metal cover straight off to reveal the cartridge holder. Don't unscrew the pen in the middle. Unscrew the cartridge holder, insert the cartridge metal cap first, screw the holder back on, and attach a new pen needle.
5Purge the air
Point the needle up and tap so air rises. Dial 10 to 20 units and press until the air is out and a drop appears. Use smaller clicks as you get close.
6Prime every time
Dial 2 units, press, and confirm a drop at the tip. Each click on the dial is 0.01mL (1 unit). Use a new pen needle every time.
